Phyllis Zimbler Miller is the co-owner of Miller Mosaic, LLC – Power Marketing. The business teaches traditional marketing principles and internet marketing strategies. Phyllis and her business partner and daughter Yael, offer their clients a wide variety of services including customized training sessions, assistance with product launches, brand development, virtual one-on-one strategy sessions, websites and website review, Twitter coaching, and book marketing. Phyllis has an M.B.A. from The Wharton School and is a published author. Her novel, Mrs. Lieutenant, was a semi-finalist for Amazon’s 2008 Breakthrough Novel Award.
With being a self-published novelist and 30 years of traditional marketing expertise, why did Phyllis want to start her own business? “I wanted to take what I’d been learning for myself – marketing on the web – and share it with other people, especially older women who might be fearful of new technology,” said the 61-year old Phyllis. “The greatest professional reward is sharing my information with others who appreciate the help,” said Phyllis. With Yael’s corporate communications knowledge to complement Phyllis’ knowledge, they had a EUREKA moment and began their business. “The greatest personal reward is learning all this amazing new information and working as a partner with my younger daughter Yael K. Miller,” said Phyllis.
After taking the Which Jane Are You? free assessment at www.JaneOutoftheBox.com , Phyllis discovered she is a Jane Dough. “I’m lucky that I started life as a journalist so I am very comfortable writing articles and blog posts on my company topics,” said Phyllis. “I’m also fortunate to have an M.B.A. from The Wharton School, albeit in the days of main frame computers, and be married to a tax attorney who did my LLC. On the other hand, when I started learning about web marketing I didn’t even know what the words ‘social media’ meant. I listened to teleseminars where I’d be clueless – had no idea what a JV meant the first time I heard the expression. But I threw myself into learning as much as I could as fast as I could and I continue doing this. I keep filling 3-ring binders with important information I want to keep after reading it. I’m also using my online knowledge to further my support of our troops.”
What advice does Phyllis want to share with other Jane Doughs? “Not to give up on those days you want to smash the computer because you have just realized a support person gave you the wrong answer and it took you two hours of your own time to find the simple explanation,” said Phyllis. “I recommend reading Carol Dweck’s book MINDSET, which explains how you have to be willing to fail in order to succeed. Both Yael and I read the book, and we feel the premise in the book is very necessary when dealing with the world of technology.”

Thanks so much for giving me this opportunity to share my story with others. I hope older women particularly will be encouraged by my experiences.
