Meet a Jane: Christine Harris

christine-harrisChristine Harris is Founder and Director of Operations of the Christine’s Closet and the Woman to Woman Advocate for Women Rising Project. Their mission is to promote personal and professional growth by helping to build and enhance self-esteem, character and strength in individuals who are in a transitional period and/or are economically challenged.

Through her personal journey of searching for answers, support and medical assistance, Christine realized the rural area she lived in had little to offer the citizens of her community, especially woman. This bothered Christine for she knew the importance of and the personal need to have connection and a place for a woman to feel she belonged and was accepted. “I was looking to create that place,” said Christine. “A place for a woman to find another woman to talk to, a place to gather information, a place to find that perfect outfit for an upcoming job interview or a special occasion or just because of circumstances or social economics. A place to be uplifted and supported!” Christine knew first-hand what it felt like to need, desire or want these things and the difference it could make in a person’s life if they were available. Motivated by her own adventures, frustrations and personal growth, Christine was fueled ever more to bringing her ideal concept into reality. “My greatest reward of being a business owner comes when I see the women enhance their lives after a visit to Christine’s Closet,” said Christine.

“I am a Tenacity Jane!,” exclaimed Christine when asked what Jane type was revealed to her through the “Which Jane Are You?” assessment. “I believe in the mission God has sent me on and therefore know I am on the right track with my dreams, timing in life and where I am with Christine’s Closet. Knowing the baby steps along with the giant leaps I have taken to get this far is what continues to motivate me to push forward. My soul smiles when I can help someone else. I get that feel good feeling in the pit of my tummy knowing I am where I am supposed to be and will continue to grow the business as well as my inner self. I love the daily challenges that comes with owning a nonprofit business and the surprises that come with it.”

Her advice for other Tenacity Janes is to, “Never ever tell yourself that you cannot do it. Trust in God to guide you and truly believe he will make it happen if it is supposed to be.” Christine believes she has been other Jane types in the past. She began her career with non-profit agencies in 2003 while struggling to find answers to her own health challenges. Christine was prompted to make lifestyle changes along with reviewing her career options to ensure a prolonged and healthier life. Her background was in the accounting field; planning and management for various industries for the previous 27+ years, which she has always liked variety. When Christine started volunteering, it made an impact in a deeper and more spiritual way. “It touched my soul,” said Christine.

Christine, the truth is stranger than fiction. It can sound like a fairy tale…a story that inspires and changes people lives filled with fearful obstacles and triumph. Your life is that story. I am so honored to have served with you on the Texas State HIV/AIDS Council and even more honored to be among your friends.

    Christine,
I think that you have been a real advocate for the HIV/AIDS Council and do not meet anyone that you fear to viv=sit with and that you champion the cause everyday. I am proud of you for your efforts, after all, you do come from strong stock.
    Hugs,
    AunT Fay
