Ciara Daykin is the owner and CEO of Firefly Occasions Inc., a wedding and event planning company based in Calgary, Alberta (Canada). Ciara is an expert in online marketing, having coached one-on-one for the past two years with Internet marketing guru and founder of Ali Magazine, Alexandria Brown. Ciara grew her business to six figures in just three years and now coaches other wedding planners around the world through her program www.rockstarweddingplanner.com. Ciara’s ezine for brides via her wedding planning site has attracted a list of 10,000 individuals. Over 3,500 wedding planners internationally read her bi-weekly ezine, which discusses her marketing strategies and coaching programs for event professionals. Ciara continues to plan events and has recently opened up a new division to plan entrepreneurial events for heart-centered entrepreneurs (www.daykinproductions.com). She is a highly sought after speaker in her industry, has published her articles in books, magazines and online, and is a well-known social networking personality. Ciara is also the author of “Ciara Daykin’s Do It Yourself Wedding Planning System.” She is a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants and has earned the designation of Professional Bridal Consultant™.
Entrepreneurship is in Ciara’s blood. “My mother was always an entrepreneur so it made sense to me that I would eventually work for myself,” asserts Ciara. “I love the idea of being the master of my own destiny. If I need to make more money, I have the power. I also love to be creative and come up with new ideas. I don’t like other people telling me I can’t do something, and the beauty of owning your own business is that there is no limit to your creativity or what you can implement, test and try out.”
One of the greatest rewards in owning her own business is that Ciara and her husband work side-by-side. “We can travel when we want and take time off when we need to,” says Ciara. “I’m now 6 months pregnant and had a tough time with being sick at the beginning of my pregnancy, so I can only imagine how much tougher it would have been if I reported to a boss. I just delegated more to my team. It’s been amazing that my husband has been able to come to every single doctor’s appointment with me.”
After taking the free Which Jane Are You? assessment at www.JaneOutoftheBox.com ,Ciara discovered that she is a Jane Dough. “Jane Dough fits me perfectly,” says Ciara, “as I’m building an empire that doesn’t completely rely on me which feels great. I want to have a family, but what’s the point if you work all the time? I am obsessed ever since I got pregnant with creating systems and processes, even more so than I was in the past, because now I can really see the benefit – more time with my new baby. These systems and processes will be turned into products and sold, which is wonderful as my knowledge can help my industry while preventing others from struggling. I am someone who once thought – and I still wrestle with the idea – that I have to do everything, otherwise it’s not going to be done right. I’ve come to realize that if I do everything, it costs my company money because my time is better spent on income-generating activities. I’ve been Tenacity Jane and Go Jane Go for sure. The fear of money has always been something that I’ve struggled with, but it has made me stronger. Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith says, ‘I will not allow any issue to pass until I have allowed it to bless me.’ Today, that’s really how I see my fear around money or fear around trusting others to do work I assign. I may still have that fear, but I embrace it and I allow it to bless me instead of stop me. This acceptance has helped me move into Jane Dough status.”
Here is Ciara’s advice for other Jane Doughs:
- Create the systems and processes that not only make money, but also create space for joy, love, family and friends in your life.
- Don’t get so entrenched in your businesses and strive to create more and more income streams so that some of the personal side gets lost.
- Dive into your personal life as much as you dive into your business life – with purpose.
- Strive for balance in order to prevent slipping onto the Go Jane Go realm.
