Mary-Margaret Dillio is owner of LuxVine Consulting. LuxVine’s goal is to aid and assist small businesses with superior, affordable back office services so that they can concentrate on what matters most; servicing clients and growing their business without the constraints of managing back office operations. LuxVine Consulting offers customized services specific to the small business model, including administrative, marketing, and web design tasks.
Mary-Margaret started LuxVine Consulting because she wanted to be in control of her own destiny. “After working in both Philadelphia and New York,” said Mary Margaret, “I had been successful in Management and Administration, but always yearned to be my own boss. In 2008, I was laid off from my job as The Human Resources Manager for an upscale design firm in Manhattan. Having worked my whole life since I was 14, I did not like the feeling of not being in control of my career. I worked very hard for other people, but decided it was time to put that energy into working for myself. I wanted to help other small businesses and build something tangible that I could be proud of, and so LuxVine Consulting was born.”
What is the biggest reward of owning her business? “Being told by other business owners that I am a lifesaver is ‘it’ for me,” exclaimed Mary Margaret. “I love the feeling of accomplishment, and I know that my assistance with their back office operations truly has helped them keep their business afloat during a time that has been so rough and unpredictable.“
After taking the Which Jane Are You? free assessment at www.JaneOutoftheBox.com, Mary Margaret has discovered that she is a Jane Dough. “My business and I most definitely fit into the ‘Jane Dough’ Category,” said Mary-Margaret. “I don’t mind working 12 hours a day and on the weekends, because I am working for myself. My goal is to grow my business into a multimillion enterprise, and the only way to do that is to give my clients what they need, and what most of them need is more time. By outsourcing their administrative and back office needs to LuxVine, our clients are able to spend more time focusing on growing their own business. Being in New York, there is so much potential to grow and acquire new clients. It’s a tough city, but once you get over the initial hurdles, it’s well worth the stress.”
She has sage advice for other Jane Doughs. “Don’t work yourself into the ground to a point where you’re too stressed to get anything accomplished,” asserted Mary Margaret. “It is important to have a healthy work balance – the beauty of running your own business is creating your own schedule. Try to always make time for your family and yourself. Why run your own business if you cannot enjoy the fruits of your labor? I think I have been, and still sometimes am a Tenacity Jane. I am only 26 years old, and did not have money saved to start my own business. In the beginning I did have some cash flow issues, but took it as a learning experience. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a website, I built it myself. Instead of placing internet ads, I do all my own marketing and social networking to create more buzz about my company. Cash flow is not as much of an issue now, but in the beginning it was rough!”
