Tricia-Rennea Wilson is an illustrator whose work can be found at http://triciarennea.blogspot.com. \According to her parents, Tricia-Rennea started drawing at the age of two and was concentrating on the artistic side of things as she didn’t start walking and talking until about the same time. She had two pieces published during her elementary school years and in high school, she did not stop drawing, she just stopped showing it to anyone. Her talent was rediscovered years later when a friend asked if anyone in the room could draw a cat, meekly she rose her hand…the rest, well that is still being written.
When asked why she wanted to start her own business, Tricia recounts, “I am not sure I set out thinking, ‘I want to start my own business’, it just happened. But I am glad that it did. By far the greatest reward is the realization that what I love, what I am drawn to do can actually be a means of support. As I started to realize there was a market for what I do, I became attracted to the freedom of working for myself.” Tricia has taken the Which Jane Are You? assessment and she falls into the Tenacity Jane category. Tricia believes that her Jane type fits her business’ status, dreams, accomplishments, and challenges, as; “I work very hard. When it comes to creating illustrations, this is not a problem. When it comes to marketing and sales I see very little return for the amount of time and effort I put into it. This inevitably leads me to question my abilities.” Her advice and lessons learned for other Tenacity Janes would be, “Relax. We all have talents, we all have that one thing that we do with grace and ease…then there is the other stuff. Do what you are good at, relax, and get help for the rest.”
Tricia believes that in years past, she was an Accidental Jane as, “I never meant to sell any art, but I did. I earned my first dollar ($20 really) for a sketch I did on September 25, 2007, when I sold an original piece to a collector in Los Angeles while there on vacation. Up until that point, I knew I was meant to illustrate and that my work was different, but I had no idea it had commercial value. Two years later, I have a business – granted a business I need help organizing, but a business none-the-less.”
