Are You Sending the Message you Intend to Send?

Did you know that non-verbal communication comprises 93% of our communication? Only 7% is the words we choose – the rest comes down to the way we look, our body language, and our tone of voice. So, what is the message you’re sending? Is it the one you intend?

Meet a Jane: Betty Hayden

Betty Hayden is the owner of Hayden Consulting. Betty works with dentists and chiropractors in the areas of practice management and marketing. Betty first considered starting her own business while working in a dental administrative position for several years and watching how much money doctors would throw away on ineffective consultants: “It was frustrating watching the staff in the dental office go right back to doing things the way they always had done them. I knew that I could make a lasting difference by teaching doctors and their team members how to develop effective systems for their business.” Betty has always believed that it is most effective for dentists and chiropractors or their management team to create systems to run the offices and then train staff to run the systems. Since dentists and chiropractors generally don’t thrive in this administrative management area, Betty provides a valuable service for her clients.

Meet A Jane Kacey Teel

Kacey Teel is the owner of Southeast Grind, a coffee house in Portland, OR. When asked why she decided to own a coffee house she said: “I have always dreamed of owning a cafe. I remember being a little girl and playing ‘coffee house’. My friends and I would create a menu, set up the kitchen like a cafe, cook a meal and also provide entertainment like a skit or musical performance. Our parents were usually the lucky ‘customers’. Coffee House days are still some of my fondest memories as a kid. When I moved to Portland, OR six years ago I started to realize that my dream could be a reality. The creative and entrepreneurial spirit is flourishing here. I was working as an insurance agent setting up group benefits for small businesses and would spend a lot of time in coffee shops networking and working on my computer. I realized that although there are an abundance of cafes we were missing one that really tied in both quality and customer service. After about a year of planning and spending time at the SBA I was at the right place at the right time and stumbled across a cafe that was closing its doors in a neighborhood that I loved. Within a month the keys were in my hands and I was running Portland’s Only 24 Hour Coffee House!”
